Safflower is a medium-sized seed that is whitish and oval-shaped. These seeds are easy to give to your bird as a training reward, or can be mixed with a variety of other seeds to offer as part of your bird's diet. Compared to striped sunflower, these seeds are much healthier and can very much become an alternative choice when feeding your bird.

Feeding Suggestions

Safflower is very high in fat, best fed in a blend of other seeds or in a controlled portion as a treat. The table below is a guideline percentage of the bird's daily diet. Monitor your bird's health and condition. Make adjustments accordingly.

Consider the ration in relation to other things your bird is consuming. Safflower seeds are high in fat, birds eating an abundance of other rich seeds (flaxseed, oats, sunflower) may do better with a smaller portion offered. As with all foods, variety is important.

Storage Instructions

Store seeds in a cool, dry location. Allow airflow to prevent the development of molds that may cause illness like Aspergillosis. For extended storage periods (longer than 3-4 months), store in the freezer.
