Built in December 1976, this Boeing 727-225 first entered passenger service under the registration N8874Z, flying for Eastern Air Lines before later operating with Avianca. In October 1992, the aircraft joined the FedEx Express fleet, where it was converted into a dedicated freighter and re-registered as N466FE. As a FedEx aircraft, it became part of the company’s overnight delivery network, flying consistent nighttime routes and reliably moving cargo between hubs and regional markets. After retirement from active flight service, the aircraft took on a new role as a public exhibit. Known as “Gideon,” it was donated by FedEx and later displayed for many years at the Aerospace Museum of California, where it served as a centerpiece in the museum’s airpark.
