Type: Battleship Series: Navy Country: USA, 1862 Scale: 1: 200 Volume: 6 x A4 The battleship was laid down at the New York shipyard in October 1861 in response to the start of work by the Southerners to convert the steam frigate Merrimack into the battleship Virginia. On March 9, 1862, Monitor met for the first time in battle with the Southern battleship Virginia. During a fierce three-hour battle, both battleships were unable to inflict fatal damage on each other. On December 29, 1862, the Monitor was towed after repairs and was caught in a storm that sank 16 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras in North Carolina. Along with the ship, 4 officers and 12 sailors were killed. This unusual and small model will appeal to everyone who loves ships of the original design from the period of the American Civil War 1861-1865. Difficulty: medium.
