Old Cobblers Farm™ Wicked Tuff Turf Sheep Fescue is a cool-season grass seed designed for natural beauty, sustainability, and minimal upkeep. With its fine texture, drought tolerance, and adaptability, Sheep Fescue is a smart choice for homeowners, landscapers, and land managers seeking a low-maintenance solution for lawns, meadows, and slopes. It provides reliable coverage, reduces soil erosion, and thrives in areas where other grasses may struggle. Available in 5 lb, 10 lb, 15 lb, and 20 lb bags, this versatile seed offers flexible options for different landscape needs. Why Choose Sheep Fescue? Sheep Fescue (Festuca ovina) is well known for its resilience in diverse conditions. It is especially valued for creating eco-friendly lawns, naturalized areas, and erosion-control landscapes. Unlike many traditional grasses, Sheep Fescue has a slow growth rate, reducing the need for frequent mowing while maintaining a lush, natural look. Its fine blades form dense clumps that offer a soft, meadow-like appearance, making it a great choice for both functional and ornamental purposes. Benefits for Soil and Growth One of Sheep Fescue’s strengths lies in its ability to stabilize soil. Its fibrous root system helps prevent erosion, making it an excellent option for slopes, banks, and areas prone to runoff. It adapts well to a wide range of soils, including sandy and rocky types, provided there is good drainage. Sheep Fescue thrives in full sun but also performs well in partially shaded areas. Once established, it requires minimal watering, which conserves resources while supporting sustainable landscapes. Easy to Grow and Maintain Sheep Fescue typically germinates within 7–21 days under optimal conditions, with best results in cool-season climates. It requires consistent moisture during establishment but becomes highly drought-tolerant as it matures. Its slow growth habit reduces mowing frequency, and it naturally forms a uniform cover with little input. With minimal fertilization needs and strong adaptability, it is ideal for those seeking a lawn or meadow that requires less effort to maintain. Durable and Resilient While Sheep Fescue is not designed for heavy foot traffic, it is exceptionally resilient in naturalized settings. It holds up well in challenging environments, withstanding periods of drought and adapting to less fertile soils. Its persistence makes it reliable for long-term ground cover in areas where durability and low upkeep are priorities. Versatile Applications Sheep Fescue is widely used for: Low-maintenance residential or commercial lawns Natural meadows and wildflower plantings Erosion control on slopes and embankments Blending with other cool-season grasses for diversity Landscapes that prioritize sustainability and water conservation Product Options Old Cobblers Farm™ Wicked Tuff Turf Sheep Fescue comes in 5 lb, 10 lb, 15 lb, and 20 lb bags, providing the right amount of seed whether you are working on a small garden project or a large-scale installation.
