  • Vintage Gravy Boat / Sauciere, Large Pink Rose, The Dundee Pattern by Hutschenreuther, Bavaria, White Porcelain, Bulbous Shape, Elegant Tableware, Serveware, Collectible German Wares, (Discontinued)
  • Made in Bavaria, Germany
  • Vintage: 1962
  • Details:  This is an absolutely gorgeous Saucière with attached underplate! The pattern is called "The Dundee", this is the original by Hutschenreuther in Bavaria, not the later copy issued by Winterling.  It has large pink roses on all four sides and a thick gold rim.  The china has lovely embossed swirls and the border is scalloped, the bulbous shape gives it a lovely, elegant, very romantic look.  This style of gravy boat is called a saucière which typically has no handle, and has two pour spouts. The backstamp reads:  "Hutschenreuther Selb LHS Bavaria Germany" which tells us it were made between 1939 and 1965.  However, there is also a stamp for Pasco. Pasco was an importer based in New York and they were in business from 1915 to 1970.  We've researched this pattern and believe it was issued in 1962, which coincides with the two marks.   If you are trying to collect this pattern or are looking for a beautiful Saucière for your table or buffet, we hope this is a happy find.  We also carry other matching serving pieces and complete dinnerware sets in this pattern.

Hutschenreuther AG was started by Carl Magnus Hutschenreuther, originally as a German porcelain decorating factory in Hohenberg, Bavaria, in 1814. In 1822 they started to produce their own porcelain. Carl passed away in 1845, his wife Johanna, and their two sons, Christian and Lorenz, took over the company.  In 1857 Lorenz left to start his own company, "Hutschenreuther Selb", and partnered with Haviland and Wedgwood. When Lorenz died in 1886, his sons Viktor and Eugen, took over the company. Hutschenreuther Selb expanded from 1905 through 1928 by acquiring several other porcelain factories.  The other son, Christian Hutschenreuther (C.M. Hutschenreuther), also expanded during these years, acquiring a porcelain factory in Arzberg in 1880 and factories in Bohemia, Silesia, and Saxonia in the early 1900s. Unfortunately these factories were lost after WWII.  The Lorenz Hutschenreuther and C. M. Hutschenreuther companies were two totally independent companies until their merger in 1969.  In 1969, Lorenz Hutschenreuther purchased C. M. Hutschenreuther and created "Huttschreuther AG". He kept expanding and by the late 1990's Hutschenreuther AG had 15 production sites. In 2000, Hutschenreuther became part of the Rosenthal Division of the Wedgwood Group.  Rosenthal continues to use Hutschenreuther’s trademark.
