• Details:  A pair of very heavy, brilliantly cut, crystal candle holders.  The pattern, which is crisscross on the bottom and has vertical designs going up the column, catches the light from many angles and disperses it in a rainbow of hues.  The look is elegant, works well with any style but especially well within Art-Deco and Mid-Century modern decor.  They have a very unusual diamond shaped base showcasing most of the pattern.  "Stuart" name clearly etched on the bottom.

Anyone who knows crystal, knows the Stuart name stands out above the rest.  Stuart Crystal’s story begins in 1827 when Frederick Stuart, at the age of eleven, and orphaned, was sent to work at the Redhouse Glassworks on the Crystal Mile in England.  By 1853 he, along with Richard Mills, Edward Webb, and Thomas Webb, formed the firm of Mills, Webb & Stuart.  In 1883 Stuart started a family business called Stuart & Sons, taking over the old Red House glass works where he had worked many years before.  Later Stuart's sons kept the Stuart Crystal company successful right up until 1995.  In 1995, the crystal-making firm was successfully bought out by the equally renowned Waterford Wedgwood company.   In 2001 the Stuart factory was closed forever, making the preservation of those Stuart Crystal pieces that remain a matter of great historical importance.
