Bloodfin tetras, also known as Aphyocharax anisitsi, are small freshwater fish that are native to South America. They are popular among aquarium enthusiasts due to their vibrant colors, active behavior, and ease of care. Bloodfin tetras typically grow to a maximum size of around 1.5 inches, making them a great choice for smaller aquariums.
When it comes to tank size, bloodfin tetras are relatively flexible. They can be kept in tanks as small as 10 gallons, but a larger tank is always better. A good rule of thumb is to provide at least one gallon of water per inch of fish, so a group of 6 bloodfin tetras would ideally be kept in a tank that is at least 15 gallons in size.
Bloodfin tetras are a hardy species that can tolerate a wide range of water conditions, but they do prefer slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5. They are also social fish that do best in groups of at least 6 individuals. Overall, bloodfin tetras are a great choice for beginner and experienced aquarists alike.
