The Bacopa is a mainstay of the aquarium hobby. It hails from the southeastern United States, where several species of Bacopa grow wildly and in cultivation. The purple variant is noted for its vibrant color, and for its characteristic ease of care. 

This plant grows at a moderate pace and with a moderate to high amount of light, about 0.5 watts per litre. Micro and macro nutrient supplements in the substrate will help it grow bigger and faster, but aren’t strictly necessary, as this is a hardy and adaptable plant.

Due to the structure of its leaves, the Bacopa is best situated in the foreground or midground of the tank, where along with shorter plants it can provide an aesthetically pleasing terracing effect.

This plant is also as easy to propagate as it is to care for: simply make cuttings of the top or lateral shoots, and replant them. The runners that grow from the stem bases can also be cut and replanted.

Overall, Bacopa purple is an easy to care for, yet pretty plant that earns its place as a staple of the aquarium hobby, and will do well in a variety of tanks.
